I just adore these cute little moon phase wall hangings! I decided I wanted one really badly and I want it now! I had all the items on hand to make a cute little lunar hanging myself! It was really easy...
DIY Moon Phase Wall Hanging
Christmas is over and I know you have a ton of Amazon Prime boxes lying around!!! Let's put those boxes to good use! Yes, this wall hanging is made from a cardboard box! What can I say? I'm frugal!
Supplies:
First you want to print out your template. I just made one up using paint. My template is below. If you have paint, go to print preview, then page setup, change "fit to" to 2x2 pages. Print (or trace without printing) and tape your templates onto cardboard. Cut out designs... Enjoy cutting out!
An hour later and 3 different scissors I finally said... Fuck this! This shit is dumb, I'm buying one from ETSY! This is where the mug of wine comes in handy. Actually you want to start on your wine before you start so when you get to this point you won't give a mother fuckface about how stupid hard it is to cut crescents out of cardboard!!!! Okay, whew. I feel better. Now if you did not give up then you have all your pieces cut out! (Oh I originally had an extra smaller circle template that I did not end up using). Now we are ready to paint!
I had this brown acrylic paint on hand. I could not find any paint brushes in the house but I had a shit ton of makeup brushes that work just as well!
Paint your pieces... enjoy some adult snacks because... adulting is hard! Become an artist! Hurry and put the paint away before the children see!!!
I really wanted you to see my pathetic little hot glue gun! That is paper stuck to it, and it doesn't even work all of the time. I have to shove things in the end to get the glue to come out! It's really sad.
Alrighty. Now you can take your dowel or stick and wrap your ribbon or twine around the ends to make a "hook". Nothing fancy to see here!
Then I hot glued the twine in the center of the dowel and glued my pieces to the twine... Easy peasy! There you have it! I did have some giant wooden beads and knotted and glued one to the end of the hanging piece to give it some flair, this is completely optional though! Hang your piece and enjoy!
I'm very happy with my lunar phase! I think the cardboard was too difficult when cutting. I think if I were to make this again (and I will because one of my sons wants me to make him one!) I will use foam sheets instead, leave a comment if you have other suggestions! Thank you for looking at my shitty photos, they aren't going to get any better either!
I would love to hear from you and if you have made a moon phase hanging I would love to see it in the comments below! For real though thank you for reading! Please like, share, tweet, and pin!

Love this! Thank you. I really want one for my daughter, I can’t find any that I like on Etsy or eBay or elsewhere so started the search in how to make and came across your page. Great tutorial haha love it, so realistic!! I think I’m going to try this with air dry clay and then I’ll paint it. Wish me luck :)
