The ultimate in comfort food! This is a beef dish commonly called "Shepherd's Pie" in the United States, however, the correct name is Cottage Pie. What's the difference? Shepherd's Pie is made with lamb and Cottage Pie is made with beef.
This dish can be made so many different ways. I used peas, corn, and cream of mushroom soup. You can use beef broth, tomato paste, green beans, carrots, the possibilities are endless! In fact, you can't mess this recipe up, and if you do make a mistake, it will still taste delicious!
Ingredients: 2-4 large potatoes 1 pound ground beef 1 can peas (drained) 1 can corn (drained) 1 can Cream of Mushroom soup Salt and pepper Minced garlic shredded cheddar cheese (I used about 8 oz) Directions: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Peel and dice potatoes and place in a pot of boiling water, boil for about 20 minutes or until potatoes are soft. (You will make mashed potatoes out of these, I added a couple tsp of minced garlic to the water for a more garlicy taste). While potatoes are boiling, brown ground beef with salt, pepper, and 2-3 tsp garlic. Add corn, peas, and cream of mushroom soup to the ground beef and mix well, simmer. Drain potatoes and mash with milk, butter, salt, and potatoes and set aside. Place ground beef mixture into a baking dish and top with shredded cheese, spread mashed potatoes over the top. Take a fork and poke the top of the potatoes to form little peaks, I added a little butter over the top. Place in oven and bake for 20-30 minutes. Dig in and ENJOY! Look at the yummy goodness seeping from the top and sides!

I make mine a little easier: I use Ore-Ida® Steam n' Mash® Cut Russet Potatoes, following the directions on the package. Brown the ground beef, adding salt, pepper and whatever spices you want. I use Heinz gravy (12 oz jar) and whatever vegetables I want to use (peas, corn, tomatoes, etc.) I layer the ground beef first, then the mashed potatoes, adding the cheese on top. Bake 20-25 minutes.
